Tawnya Clark, Founder and Chief Batata Visionary, grew up in a community near the Avenue of Fashion. She has over 30 years of experience making home-made comfort foods from scratch, 12 years customers service experience, 8 years of retail experience, and a 3 month internship with Cliff Bell's Restaurant. She graduated from the Bizdom U Entrepreneurial Program in 2010, and completed the FoodLab Detroit “Building a Good Food Business” Bootcamp in 2012. She has a ServSafe Certification- Food Handler License and is a member of the FoodLab Steering Committee.
Batata means sweet potato in Spanish and the Batata Shop, LLC loves sweet potatoes. The basis for the Batata Shop is the belief that good food is made from scratch with quality ingredients and lots of love. Currently operating as a pop-up and private caterer throughout the Detroit Metropolitan Area, the Batata Shop is licensed through the Michigan Department of Agriculture. It produces batters at the Traffic Jam Restaurant in Midtown Detroit; however the goal is to grow into a local brand with multiple retail outlets by focusing on the triple-bottom-line: Profit, Community, and Environment.
