A mother of two sons from Detroit, MI., Ife has been a community activist and advocate for social justice for several years. Ife has been featured in a variety of media outlets, such as Huffington Post, Al-Jazeera, and The Village Voice. She was also featured in Time Magazine’s 2011 “Person of the Year” issue. Ife initiated the “Feed the Hood” program in 2011, which still runs and feeds people in need in their communities. Social justice and health have long been at the center of her community-focused activism. Ife is a member of the D:hive BUILD Class 23, FoodLab Detroit, and is certified through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals.
Having severe gestational diabetes during her pregnancy in 2002 and a trip to the physician, helped give birth to her love for green smoothies and her quest to make better food choices. She found green smoothies to be the easiest and quickest way to ensure that her and her family got more than their daily serving of fresh fruit and vegetables-- and it tasted great.
DrinkGreen Smoothies began in 2013 after she started making frozen pre-packaged green smoothie kits for her own convenience at home. She decided to share this convenience with the people in her community, making it easy and affordable for everyone to make healthier food choices. DrinkGreen Smoothies successfully introduced its DrinkGreen Smoothies and DrinkGreen Smoothie Kits for two months during its first “Pop Up” on the “Avenue of Fashion,” on Livernois Ave. in early 2014.
DrinkGreen is excited to meet, learn from, and be among so many wonderful local entrepreneurs through programs such as D:hive and FoodLab Detroit. Her eventual goal is to have her produce completely locally sourced and to expand her green smoothie recipes. She hope to eventually grow to encompass several stores, offering not only DrinkGreen Smoothies, but also DrinkGreen Smoothie Kits and other healthy snacks, as well as offer DrinkGreen Smoothie Kits in other retail stores.
Ife seeks to create programs that promote affordable, healthier lifestyles and food choices, but one of her biggest dreams is to one day offer fair employment to the people in her community.
