Art in Motion
Audrey Long is a ceramic artist that has been working in clay for 14 years. After receiving her degree from the College for Creative Studies in 2008, she started working at Pewabic Pottery as a production vessel maker. Audrey was able to investigate the spectrum of production including tile, glaze chemistry and kiln operation. While exploring fabrication and multiplicity she began incorporating these ideas with a variety of hand building and wheel throwing techniques. She still resides at Pewabic Pottery and now has taken a more technical role in the Education Department. This has allowed Audrey to explore a multitude of processes for her own work as well as opening up her students to greater possibilities.
Audrey is currently teaching a variety of sculptural and applied ceramics classes at Pewabic Pottery along with Anton Art Center. She has been a judge for Scholastics Art and Writing Awards for the last 3 years. Long has shown her work in galleries throughout Michigan, including the Detroit Artist Market, Kirtland Community College, College for Creative Studies, Sugar Hill Clay and Art Effect Gallery. She has also recently participated in Noel Night, DIY Fair, and Rustbelt Market focusing on more functional ceramics. She has recently been chosen in a worldwide display of 1000 plates and is the featured ceramicist for The Home Ground.
She’s presently working on Art in Motion, a ceramic studio where the community can participate in workshops, attend classes, gain technical skills, enjoy private lessons and work in an open studio setting. It is opening September 2013.
