Good Cakes and Bakes

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, April Anderson attended Chadsey High School Detroit, MI and afterwards obtained her Bachelors of Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Later April received her Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. However, April knew at the early age of 9 that she wanted to be a baker and started making treats for her family on a regular basis. As April’s curiosity grew and she began exploring more sophisticated recipes and started a home based baking business in 2008; this is also when April took her first Wilton’s Cake Decorating Class.

In 2013 she graduated from Macomb Community College, Warren, MI A.A.S in Pastry Arts. It was during this time that April knew that she wanted to open a bakery in the Detroit area and discovered D:hive and later became one of the graduates of the February 2013 D:hive BUILD class.

April is co-owner and pastry chef of Good Cakes and Bakes, LLC (GCB). Incorporated in 2013, Good Cakes and Bakes mission is to provide quality baked goods that are wholesome and organic in nature; and to provide our baked goods in an environment that is positive, creative, educational and friendly to our employees and our community. 
 
Good Cakes and Bakes, LLC was developed out of April's love of baking from scratch! April has been baking since she was a child and found that she loved the reaction she received from people after they tasted her pastries. Because of her love for baking she attended Macomb Community College for Pastry Arts and gained knowledge on Pastry Techniques, Artisan Breads, French Pastries and Recipe Development. Michelle first became interested in baking by enjoying April's treats! However, now she has come up with lots of new creations in the kitchen and is excited to be more than the "taster!" Together they created GCB and their goal is to provide the most natural and fresh ingredients; and their pledge to their customers is to use organic and locally grown produce when available.
